FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR COURSE

The Flight Instructor Rating (FI) is an essential rating if you want to upgrade to give flight
instruction. The focus of the FI course is on all the competencies that you require to function well
as an instructor.

The role of the Flight Instructor is covering a wide area of operation: from the classroom to the
cockpit and everything in between. It is a challenging role as there are many new competencies
that an FI needs to master that have not been covered in previous flight training.

PREREQUISITES

The FI course requires first and foremost a solid motivation to become a trainer. This is reflected in the pre entry test listed below. An FI can in principle be added to a PPL, but the rating will then be limited to instructing for the LAPL license only. It is recommended to have at least CPL level theory knowledge and experience matching with the role of an instructor.

The following pre requisites apply for the start of the FI course:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Pass an assessment of motivation test
  • Have passed a specific pre-entry test with a MATC FI (within 6 months preceding
    the start of the course)

    • Candidates who previously completed a training course at MATC may be
exempted from this fight test at the discretion of the HT.
  • Hold at leas a CPL(A) or be the holder of a PPL license. For the PPL holders the
    additional will apply:

    • Candidate will have at least 250 hrs flight experience
    • Type of experience will be assessed by the HT

COST

The exact cost of the FI course package is for 2026 € 14.500,- Payment arrangements are similar to PPL and other courses with instalments paid in advance based on flight hours, and as specified in the contract.

DURATION & INTENSITY

The FI course is set up as a full time course, and requires full time availability. This includes preparation work during the weekend. Because the FI course involves a significant amount of theory and practicing of theory briefings, every session will require serious preparation.

The intensity of the course is therefore higher than any other course, as more preparation is required and the training sessions are generally taking a full day.

In the full time format the student should anticipate that the course requires a minimum of 5 weeks, but 6 weeks need to be reserved to allow for extensions due to weather or other circumstances.
